Message Board Topic: Commercial vs Fine

What is the difference between Commercial Art and Fine Art? Why is there a distinction? Is one better than the other? Is one more difficult than the other? Why or why not?

  1. Commercial art is mostly for things like commercials, billboards, and advertising. Fine art is art forms developed for aesthetics. There's a distinction because not every artist is the same and wants their art to be viewed in different ways. I don't think one is better than the other, I consider all artistic ways interesting. I think that both are difficult because in commercial art you have to try to get the viewers attention and in fine art you also have to get their attention but you also have to speak to them somehow through your art.

  8. Comercial art encompasses ads and graphic design. Fine art is museum and gallery work. I think aspects of both fields intermingle. One is not better than the other, although the physical time spent working could vary greatly.

  11. commericial art is something you recognize. You dont really think of the photograph or the photographer, but the product or whatever.
Fine art pulls peoples thoughts into the photo and gives and opinion on the photographer and the photo.

  12. commercial is like junk for advertising like mcdonalds..etc. fine art is like single artists making their art how they find things interesting and stuff. commercial i feel isnt really about the art, and fine art i feel is more like the people actually enjoying the art. i think fine art is more difficult because it is the artists perspective on the way they want to create their art.
