Message Board Topic: Where is My Mind?

How does the mind relate to the brain? Some theorists think that the mind is the software or program application whereas the brain is the hardware or computer. Other theorists do not agree with this model/metaphor for the brain and mind.

This dilemma is called the mind/body problem and has been tackled by philosophers and psychologists alike. What do you think? Where is the mind? What is the mind? Does it exist in the brain or outside the brain?

Once you have determined where the mind is, think about where creativity exists. How do you define creativity? What makes someone or something creative?

  1. This is a question with many answers, but i think that the mind exist's outside of the brain. To me, the brain is where all the core information is stored that you learn throughout your life, but your mind is something tottaly different. Creativity is in the mind, and it's what helps define you as a person. Your mind is what makes you unique. The mind is what helps you become creative, and think of creative ideas. I think it also helps you make everyday decisions, the ones you dont really ever think of. Being creative is not being like anyone or anything else, it's being unique in your own way.

  2. i think the mind is between ur stomach and ur pancreas just sayin

i was kiding i think the mind is in the brain our mind is who we are and we are a combination of everything and everyone we know, i think our creativity comes both from the mind and the heart i think the heart feels something and the mind gives it a shape and then the body gives it a physical form and what comes out of that process is art, or at least thats the way i see it.
thinking about the mind is too tiring because theres no way to say where it is, the brain is one thing but the mind is another, maybe we are all in little capsules filled with slimy liquid and hooked up to a ginormous computer and maybe theres a guy called neo that can do crazy stuff, but again i say thats just a theory

  3. the mind and the brain are like conjoined twins but the mind is the small creppy deformed one, where the brain is the useful beautiful and smart twin. your mind is where you think of subjects and your brain is where those subjects actually start to mean something. creativity is part of the mind and once you have a general idea it moves to the brain to become art. What makes a person creative is how beautiful their ugly twin is. its good to have identical twins but its very rare.

  4. I think that the mind and the brain are one and the same - they exist to create thoughts and tell the body what to do. It really is that simple, to me.

Creativity is the mind's ability to come up with something not yet seen before, or a variation on something someone else has already created. Creativity obviously comes from the brain/mind, but in order for the brain to get the idea that insipres creativity, we have to take it from outside sources. Most of the time, this comes from various media and art forms that other members of our society create. For example, when I was a young child, I watched a lot of television. I am almost positive that the amount of television I watched then inspires my interest in pop culture and my creativity in photography.

  5. I think the mind is a completely different part of us. It's almost like the soul we don't know we have. I've often thought that dreams are what your mind does to keep itself busy while the normally conscious part of you sleeps. I believe that the conscious part of a person is the brain. It's what we think with and what we learn with. When the brain and mind meet, usually accidentally, it turns into creativity. It's your imagination within logic. Creativity is something that makes you think harder. It taps into your subconscious mind, because your brain can't fully process it. This is why I believe that art shouldn't be picked at and analyzed, it should be felt.

  6. i agree with that completely. i believe your mind is just what your thought process is carried out on, or for instance your creativity. whereas your brain is what holds your emotion, or more of your reactions. i think our mind is if anything just like our brain but just has different aspects. i would define creativity as what makes up the mind in it's own said way.

  7. i have a theory on the mind and body concept that is similar to the computer/hardware theory. i believe that the body is like a factory or warehouse and the brain is the control center and the mind is like the factory worker in the control room. For the factory (body) to work the control center must send out the commands desired therefore the worker (mind) must tell make the decision on what move to make next. Without the mind the body would fail and nothing would work just like a factory.

  8. I think the mind is part of our brain, our mind uses memories that are stored in the brain. Everything imortant in life is stored up in the brain, then people use their mind and their imagination to imagine the unreal. In art, artists can take anything they remember from their lifetime and use their mind/imagination to create a masterpiece.

  9. The mind relates to the brain in many ways because when I think about it your brain is something that stores memories in it which is your mind. The brain is composed of different parts that holds different types of memories and thoughts, which is part of your mind. I think that a person that believes in what they should go with that idea over all because if there is no proven way, then you can think what you want. You cant just one day say this is this and that is that if it isn’t proven. I think that the mind is based through out all of your parts of your brain connecting with your memory. I think that creativity comes from your mind because your thinking of what is creative to your like, you have your brain then you think in your mind what will trigger your like.
