During the early 1900’s two men perhaps had the greatest impact on 20th century culture: Picasso and Einstein. They shared one thing in common: trying to find a way to describe how things can happen at the same time, in the same place. Einstein developed the Theory of Relativity (special and general) while Picasso co-developed Cubism with Georges Braque. They both were influenced by one man: a mathematician named Henri Poincare.
How do you think math could have helped Picasso and Einstein develop their ideas?
What do you think is the relationship between these two men?
How did they impact the 20th century?
Math influenced Einstein for extremely obvious reasons - his equations were all based in mathematical principles that he had to study relentlessly to perfect his science. Math could have influenced Picasso because his work is so geometric. He probably looked to the study of shapes and angles and applied it to his work so the lines appeared straight and uniform.
ReplyDeletePicasso and Einstein are related in that they both brought their respective studies to a mainstream audience. Einstein's scientific ideas brought about the atom bomb, and it made him the best known scientist of all time (basically). Picasso took art away from the de Medici-type people of the 19th century and brought it to a modern, middle class society. It was abstract enough to attract interest, simple enough for people to understand.
Similarly, this is how both men influenced the twentieth century. Einstein's impact was the atomic bomb, which would completely change the ways of the military world. Picasso's art, as said above, was broad and extremely popular.
math could have helped them figure out if two things really could simultaniously happen at the same time. And since they were both interested in mathematics and science, this was something they both incorporated into their work. einsteins special relativity impacted the 20th century because he came up with an new kind of physics. Picasso impacted the 20th century with his new form of art, which was different from the previous styles.
ReplyDeleteI think that math helped these artists contruct a few new ways of thier sculpting, painting, and photography. Math helped them by showing them new things and therefore giving them new ideas of art.The relationship between these two are the way they found new theorys and ways to think. They impacted the 20th century by giving us art and theorys.
ReplyDeleteMathematics helped both, Einstein, and Picasso, in the way that Einstein was a man who used science which involves equations and multiplication, and division. For example when Einstein found out how to make the atomic bomb, he had to use nuclear fusion which mean calculating how much force it takes to fuse to atoms together . in like manner Picasso had to use mathematics though geometrical shapes, and their edges and lengths that he must have to set his shapes and angels at.
ReplyDeleteI think that these to men have things in common such as how they have their how ideas about things within using math to come up with their ideas. They both brought ideas out to the public that may not be similar but in a mind state they were because both took some critical movement and had some kind of impact on society.
Both of these things impacted the 20th century for the fact that to this day people respect both of these men in a lot of ways.to this day people use and mimic their science and art to this day.
einstein and picasso both used mathematics, but in different ways. Picasso by his very odd geometric shapes and random lines placed carefully to make wonderful pieces of art that people enjoy. Einstein used math to create all of his equations, you can't have science with out math. their work is related not only because of being influenced by the same person or trying to prove the same thing but also by creating new theories and new ways that people followed. Einstein influenced the 20th century by helping create what technologic advancements we have made today, and picasso influenced it by forming art into what it is today and how many different kinds of art there are.
