Message Board Topic: Changing Impressions

Reflect on artistic experiences you have had throughout your life. Think about movies, photographs, paintings, sculptures, poems, literature, music, or other media. Now think about those that have changed you – those that have had such a lasting impression on you that you cannot forget it/them. Now think about how and why this happened…

What about this media was so impactful?

What was the subject matter of the media?

What was the concept of the media? What did it mean?

Why did this change you? How are you different now?

  1. well this is a very recent thing but i think it applies well to what is asked here, the album "hospice" by The Antlers has probably been a really big thing for mr because this cd literally changed my mood, i dont know if its the sad story about a lover who dies of cancer or the gloomy sounds of their music. but this band music has really changed the way i see music, it showed me how a song can really affect someone and really make them feel something close to what the writer felt when he was writing the lyrics

  2. I think the reason why this media was so impactful on me was because it sort of a realization moment where i just sat and thought about what it might mean, and then it all just hit me at once. Then after a while is when i could really make some sense of it. The subject matter of which this was in was a piece of literature. The concept of the literature was explaining to never stay in one place, and always make your life an adventure, because you never know what may lay outside your comfort zone, if you never explore it. This changed me in a way of thinking that i never thought before. It made me realize that they are actually very right, it's good to adventure and explore new things because you may find a new hobby or passion while doing so.

  3. media is so impactful because it is everywhere. its on television, billboards, the radio, posters. anywhere you go you can see an advertisment for some sort of media. they expose you to it everywhere and drill it into your brain. there is no way not to be effected by it. they use visual or auditory stimulations to attract you to it and then pull you in and take your money; and the only thing you can do about it is go blind and deaf. or move to a island untouched by the pollution of mankind, where the natives will be willing to accept you as one of them! if you find such a place notify me please!

  4. A movie that impacted me was the passion of the christ. Everything about it was impactful, there was so many emotions throughout this movie. The whole comcept of this movie was to show was Jesus went through, it was very sad. It changed me because, i've read about it and heard about this story in church, but actually seeing it had a way bigger impact.

  5. Media: The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.

1.) I was inspired by the sprawling scope of the story - he managed to tell the story of the Joad family while telling the story of all the migrant worker families at the same time. It's got a sense of drama to it that is really inspiring to a lot of people. Steinbeck also delivers his personal ideas through the story - his idea that the community is stronger than the individual.

2.) It tells the story of a family of migrant workers who move to California during the Dust Bowl to start a new life, but things keep getting worse and worse for the family. The chapters alternate between the story of one family, the Joads, and the story of all the families and the story as a whole.

3.) This story taught me to appreciate story-telling. I never took much stock in American fiction, but this book was crafted in a way that really spoke to me. It's such a sad story, but it inspires you to act up and change things rather than just mope about it. After reading it, I'm now more radical in my socio-political ideas and I feel more compelled to challenge the world around me.

  6. i think as a artist throughout my life has a good impact on my life because it makes me think alittle diffrently when it comes to these kinds of things such as thinking more logical or more theratical. the subject of the media was photography and capturing the old broken down past basically in a urban way. the concept of the media was to capture somthing diffrent in the sense that it made u think and it was diffrent in that it combinded a couple diffrent medias like nature, city and urban city that was all vbroken down. i think it changed me as uin workling alittle harder to ind somthing or a object and thinking more critical
