Over time, throughout art history and the media, art and ideas have been censored. Most new media and fads start out uncensored with a lot of freedom. Then, societies, groups and other forums go in and try to reel it back in. A great example was the first movies – you can actually find movies from the 20’s and 30’s which are more “racy” and more “off color” than you can in the “50’s” and “60’s.”
Art goes through similar issues. Over the past few decades artists continually push the envelope. What is the difference between obscenity and art? When does it go too far?
What about the internet? Right now it is a truly free medium without censorship. Do you think an agency or group will try and censor it? Why or why not?
I dont think there is a 'too far'
ReplyDeleteArtist can do what they want, its their right.
I think when art gets taken too far is when someone gets truly hurt or offended by it, if theres a picture or painting out there that hurts someone's feelings then it isn't art. Art is something that everyone should see the beauty in and enjoy it for that and not because it hurts someone else.
ReplyDeleteI think art can have as much obscenity as it wants. As long as it's somewhat tasteful and it doesnt offend anyone. Nudity is pretty if its done right. It goes too far if it is done for the wrong purpose. On the internet I think an angency will censor it because kids can get on the internet and they dont need to see that. <333
ReplyDeleteit really is pointless to censor art. on t.v you will find so much references to sex, swearing, vulgar, and so much more horrible things. art is a way of expresson, in a way it is different because art is beautiful. sure it could probably be a little more clean but it is a whole different story that what is already said and seen on t.v and on the internet. i do think at some point there will be censoring but at this point in time, no one really cares because so many people have lost their morales. things have changed, not all for the better. but we keep the art and it becomes different and is actually getting better in different ways.
ReplyDeleteArt can be obscene, but it depends on what the artist is going for. If it's meant to be obscene, then why censor that? It's expression. Also, it depends on which website you're going to. I'm sure some site-creators are more censored than others, and it can always change. I don't think any groups or agencies will censor it, considering mostly everyone uses the computer at home.
ReplyDeleteI think being "racy" and art are two different things. Being "racy" is wrong, and art is beautiful. I think censoring "racyness" would actually be a good thing because not everyone wants to see that.
ReplyDeleteI think many people are starting to push the envelope and express whatever they want whether it be considered inapropriate by some, it may be art to them. maybe the goverment will step in or somthing and try to limit the amount of vulgarity allowed on the internet.

ReplyDeleteI dont think there is a limit to are, it can never go too far. obviously people have different opinions on what is racy and censorship gives the the view the option to view whatever is censored... i think the way things are now are perfectly now. if you dont want your kids seeing racy stuff, dont let them go on the computer.
There are agencies that censor it. It just depends on how they want to come across. Yes, some things should be cencored. Lately, it's become a free for all though and things are getting out of hand. Eventually agencies will try to come across better and more professional by showing less nudity.
ReplyDeletethe difference between the obsenity and art is art is done for a key purpose to draw in a viewer and understand a point of view, and although there are types of media that do have a "purpose" there is a further line that art may cross due to past and present works. there is a line that is too far for both though when it is too violent or sexual, even on the internet. i do think that a group will try and censor it because of the use and people who use the material.
ReplyDeleteYou can’t censor art because you can’t censor the artist. I don’t believe that there is a “too far” when it comes to art. It’s supposed to be expressive and peculiar. How do you limit someone’s creativity? I don’t think the internet will be censored, because it will bring too much controversy. The constitution states that we have the freedom of speech. Art is just a visual form of speech.
