Message Board Topic: Abstraction & Realism

In this project you are being asked to combine abstraction with realism. These two forms of art are often seen as opposites or at odds with one another. Explain the difficulties you are having with this conceptually. Where are you struggling? Why do you think it is difficult? What have you decided so far and how can you push this further?

  1. I dont think its difficult. i think that abstract and realism combine really well, i like the way the pictures look with the smoke. the only thing im having trouble with is fixing up the smoke

  2. There are difficulties with finding exactly what to do with my photos and how to edit them in an interesting way and to work with the s-curves, i also need to look for the photos of s-curves and i want them to be unique and interesting. i think it is difficult because i am a bit picky about my photos and what i want to shoot. i have decided i want them interesting and pushing through that inspiration.

  3. I'm struggling with putting them together and then making them look good/realistic. I don't really go for generated art, because I just like real stuff better. I'm just going to try harder to make them look better and also to my standards.

  4. it makes things difficult when you have to combined two photos together when one of them is suppose to look like something that it might not be. with the picture that we use we have to edit it so it looks like it should actually be there. i decided that to make this project good is by putting more focus on the actually person but bring more attraction with the smoke to complement the person in the photo.

  5. I'm struggling with placing the photos together to make them look good. I think this is difficult because its an abstract object with a human figure or s-curve in general.

  8. The difficulties I'm having are trying to incorporate an abstract photo with a realistic one. All of my photos look like poop. I'm trying to figure out which realistic photos would look the best. It's really testing my patience.

  9. I think combining two things that you wouldn’t normally see together is creative and the project causes more creative thinking that usual, which is important in creating art. It’s probably difficult because it takes more of an inventive thought process that most people tend to ignore or have trouble finding.
