Message Board Topic: Wacom Inkling

Wacom has recently come out with a new digital art device: the Inkling (linked here: http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/Inkling.aspx?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Search&utm_campaign=Inkling&gclid=CI209vTfiKsCFc_AKgodGQnLTQ ).

This device records whatever you draw on a piece of paper using Wacom's pen and the reciever. Inkling - Sketch
As a new type of art tool, this is very exciting for the digital art community - graphic designers, web designers, digital illustrators and digital photographers. Do you think this is an exciting breakthrough in technology? Why or Why not?

If the school was able to purchase some of these models, would you find this valuable? How would you use this tool in your respective courses (DPI 1, DPI 2 or DID)? Why would you use this tool?

  1. I think it is because people might find it easier and more organized. Especially for graphic designers, they might find this tool very useful in there everyday work. I would definitely use this tool not just for classes but for my own art or entertainment.

  4. I think this is exciting because it's an easier way to get things from paper to computer and I dont think I would find this valuable because im not really an artist and I dont draw.

  6. This would be an amazing peice of equiptment to add to the DID class. It makes drawing with a mouse soooo overated now that they have paper that reads on to an appliacation. Tablets are great but i would rather use this so i can draw on paper and see what im doing rather than only seeing it appear on the screen.

  8. i think it is a break through, but it isn't something i would use. i wouldn't want any copies of my artwork, only the original. i think if we had them in school it would kind of take away from the original art meaning. so i don't think it would be very beneficial.

  9. It would be useful because sometimes the scanner doesn't give us all the details and sometimes the quality isn't the best. I think we should be careful if we buy it cause I feel like it being a new invention there may be some glitches. But yeah it is pretty exciting. It'd be cool to watch.

  10. While I would not say a huge breakthrough,
I do believe that this could lead to many more new and exciting tools.
And yes it would be cool to have these in the school, since it would be a more economic choice compared to tablets.

  11. I would love this tool because i am really good at drawing on paper but not so well on a tablet. This would take away all the hassle of scanning crap. It would make it way easyer to manipulate also.

  12. I think the tool is interesting and could be valuable. It would provide more control over drawing, but wouldn't it limit the meduim in use? And wouldn't some subtle details be lost in transmission?

  13. Yes this would be awesome to be able to use at school! This would be ideal for the t-shirts I'm working on for the fall play. I could just trace the design and then send it to the company to make the shirts. For any types of designs this would be amazing and help the process go by much faster.

  14. I think that is soooo cool! because a lot of times you cant get the computer to do the exact detail as you can on a paid of paper!!!

  15. I think it is an exciting break through because now what you would draw on paper can be done on the computer faster and easier.

  16. i think this tool would be great to use for art classes in high school that way you can edit the drawing with photoshop and add color to it.
i dont draw or am that much of an artist in that way so i dont think it would be valuable to me.

  17. I think that this is a great tool for art class' in general. it can be used for all art classes but mostly DID, cause it is away of intagrating the pencil into paint. the mouse is a difficult tool to use to do the more advanced drawings. so this helps the arttist show higher levels of detail when using digital additions

  19. I think it's a nice tool, that would be helpful for kids in school..but I don't think it's really a "breakthrough". People are always coming out with new things in technology, & I'm sure there will be something even better in a year or two.
